PU / POLYURETHANE

One-component PU waterproof coating

Manual roller or squeegee application on prepared concrete.

Prepare the substrate
Use a sound, dry, clean and even base. Repair cracks and depressions, remove dust and form smooth rounded corners.
Reinforce the details
Treat corners, drains, pipes and joints first. Embed polyester mesh between two thin coats and fully saturate it. Allow the reinforced layer to cure.
Build up thin coats
Roll or squeegee several thin coats to the specified total thickness; the guide recommends 0.6–0.8 mm per coat. Let each coat fully cure, then apply the next at right angles.
Inspect and protect
Finish terminations, check continuity and repair pinholes or blisters. After acceptance, install the specified protection and keep the fresh coating free from rain and water exposure for at least 24 hours.

Site check: postpone work during rain or blowing sand. The guide sets a 5°C minimum; also observe the selected product’s upper temperature limit and curing requirements.

HDPE PRE-APPLIED

Expose the fixing line
For the protective-brick-wall detail shown in the guide, remove the top brick course to expose the membrane termination.
Secure the membrane edge
Fix the edge with metal pressure strips and corrosion-resistant screws. The detail specifies 200 mm fixing centres and a fixing line 20 mm from the membrane edge.
Complete the slab-to-wall lap
Remove subsequent protective bricks in controlled sections, with removal not exceeding 300 mm. Promptly join the slab and side-wall membranes with an effective lap of at least 100 mm.
Protect each completed section
Minimise the time the membrane is exposed. Complete the lap and concrete protection promptly; the guide also allows staged work in 10 m sections.

Specify waterproofing for Saudi Arabia and UAE projects

Saudi Arabia: for projects in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam, state whether the application is below ground, a protected roof or an exposed roof. Check the actual substrate temperature, dust and moisture on site against the selected product data. High service-temperature resistance is not permission to apply a product outside its application-temperature limits.

United Arab Emirates: for projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, distinguish foundations and basement walls from terraces and exposed roofs. Confirm whether the membrane will be covered, whether UV resistance is required, and how drains, joints and upstands will be detailed.

For basement rafts, pre-applied HDPE is installed before the structural concrete is poured. Adhesive-lap and welded-lap products require their respective jointing methods. For complex concrete details, liquid-applied PU forms a continuous membrane; choose the grade for protected or exposed use.

An export enquiry should include the project city, product and grade, area in m², thickness, quantity, destination port and delivery programme. Where relevant, specify Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port as the requested destination. Availability, freight and lead time are confirmed in the quotation.
